It can be tempting to disconnect the battery or erase the code just to make the light disappear.
That can remove valuable diagnostic information.
The vehicle may store a “freeze-frame”—a snapshot showing conditions such as engine speed, temperature, load, and vehicle speed when the fault occurred. Those details can help distinguish a problem that happened during a cold start from one that appeared while idling, accelerating, or driving at highway speed.
